Awakening of the early 1800’s.

Scripture Text: Daniel 12:4
Do we glorify the name William Miller? He unsealed the great prophecies of Daniel, and was responsible for causing a Great Awakening of religious fervor that spread world-wide. Why don’t we Adventists acclaim him as the greatest Bible scholar since apostolic times?
The reason is, It was God’s doing that our message came into being, not any man’s. But he was indeed a prophet!
That was not recognized, officially, by the pioneers of the movement.
Daniel’s book was “sealed, even till the time of the end.”
By the way, do you think that William Miller was late? The time of the end began at what date? At the end of the time, times, and half a time, which was 1798! (Daniel 12, vs. 4, 6, and 7). On the surface, we might think that he was late: but he wasn’t. God was preparing what was needful for something to happen in 1844, and accomplished His purposes right on time.
In 1798, the Papacy was “taken out of the way” of the Bible (2Thessalonians 2:7) by the “mortal wound” (Rev.13:3). She had kept the Bible from the people throughout the Dark Ages. By God’s Providence, He caused the Bible Societies, which sprang up in England by 1805, and America, soon after, to distribute the Word of God freely, throughout the British Empire, in the English language – our trustworthy King James Version. It has since been translated into every language on earth! The KJV should be your main study Bible! Providentially supplied!! It was God’s good pleasure to by-pass the great and the learned, and use the humble and the meek, so that the glory would be His, not man’s. And so, a humble farmer in New England in the United States of America, was the one who studied through the prophecies at the direction of Holy Spirit. God unfolds His Word. He was about to begin the Investigative Judgment, and mankind must be warned.
“Surely the Lord God will do nothing but He revealeth His secret unto his servants the prophets.” Amos 3:7
“Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days” (Dan.12:12).
I bet you haven’t heard that one explained, have you? Here’s the answer. 1798 (the Papacy taken out of the way) plus the difference from 1290 days (which led to 1798) to 1335 days, which is 10 days to 1300, plus 35 to 1335 days, equaling 45 days, brings us to 1843. (1798 + 45=1843). It was in 1843 that the Great Awakening exploded upon the scene, as Bible students world-wide checked out the date William Miller had proclaimed would bring “the hour of [God’s] Judgment:” and the Second Advent of Jesus! Be aware that in 1843, other Bible students corrected William Miller’s math, and finally settled on October 22, 1844 as the absolute correct date for the beginning of “the hour of His Judgment!” [But not the day of the Second Advent]. Almost all of the believers thought that God could do the pre-Advent Judgment in a second, so Jesus should come immediately! But that was a PRECONCEPTION which resulted in disappointment. The very next day, Holy Spirit revealed that that Judgment would take a long time, and would be the on-going NEW work of Jesus in the Most Holy Place, in the heavenly Sanctuary, that Moses’ Sanctuary was patterned after! [However, it took over two years to reveal their mistake through the communication available at that time].
It was by using that Bible’s own Prescription for Bible study method, inspired by Holy Spirit Himself for us to use, “line upon line… here a little, there a little,” (Isaiah 28:9, 10; KJV) that William Miller, and all of these Bible students, unfolded the prophecies, to warn the world of what was to come! “Many shall run to and fro (in the Bible!) and knowledge shall be increased” (Dan. 12:4). William Miller’s nickname was, “the old man and his Concordance!”
So let’s give the glory for the development of the Advent Movement, and later, of the Seventh-day Adventist Movement, to Whom it is due! God caused the Bible to be freely distributed through the Bible Societies. Only because of the availability of the Bible could the discoveries be found that unsealed the book of Daniel (and subsequently, the book of Revelation also)! Daniel’s book was sealed till the time of the end (1798), till God released the Bible for distribution, by taking “the man of sin” “out of the way!” 2 Thess. 2, v.7.
William Miller was no more intelligent or learned than the average one of you or I. It was by using Holy Spirit’s simple prescription for Bible study, and faith in its reliability, that all of this that he did was accomplished!
He became a prophet. Just as surely, you can become a prophet, revealing God’s Message, for our time, to the world!
Glory to God for all His wondrous works through His humble servants in this world!!
ADDENDUM: Further knowledge we must know, to help us to solidly believe in the Bible as the Word of God:
The Books that were allowed to become part of the Bible was not due to the expertise of some special group of theologians. Realize the possibility of error if that were so!
No, each Book had to conform to Holy Spirit’s prescription for correct Bible study: Isaiah 28: 9 – 13, [shortened to its capsule statement] “Line upon [compared to] line” (read the whole text NOW). Each book of the original (Hebrew and Greek) manuscripts, that became part of the “Textus Receptus” [“received” texts] had to work with that absolute requirement! The Concordance is very old, and was used for this purpose.
Not one of the Apocraphal books passed this test.
The Bible is Divinely Inspired by Holy Spirit. It is interpreted by Holy Spirit’s Prescription. The amazing thing is, that the King James Version, and ONLY the KJV, after it was translated, was also found to work perfectly with “line upon line !!” Holy Spirit worked that marvelously, with the translators as well!
NOTE WELL: All other Bible versions since 1900 A.D. Do NOT use the Textus Receptus originals. They use some OTHER manuscripts, including the Vaticanus and the more recently found Sinaiticus, discovered at St. Catherine’s Cathedral at Mount Sinai. The latter is highly suspect among scholars, as it contains HUNDREDS of scribal “corrections.” Vaticanus is even a Latin translation (from Catholic scholars) not an original, in Greek or Hebrew!
The Textus Receptus manuscripts, from which The King James Version was translated, when compared to the Dead Sea Scrolls (which pre-date all other manuscripts by 1,000 years!) were found to be literally 99% correct!
Bible Study Tools
The Concordance to the King James Version of the Bible, is like a Dictionary. Each word use, along with a part of the verse, is recorded, from Genesis to Revelation.
To let Scripture interpret Scripture, you take a major word used from the verse you are studying, look it up in the Concordance, and search from Genesis on up (in that page or two in the Concordance) looking for verses that answer your question.
Examples: What is a “beast?” Text found; Daniel 7:17 – “These great beasts… are four kings.”
Which “beast” is the one in the Third Angel’s Message? Text found; Revelation 13: 1-5 – “… The beast which I saw, was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth, as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death, and his deadly wound was healed; and all the world wondered after the beast.” – the Papal power [read the rest of the quote NOW].
What is his “image?” Proof text: Daniel 11: 38, 39 – “a god, whom his fathers knew not, shall he honor… a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge, and increase with glory.” IDOLS of MARY are his (the Pope’s) “image.” He instituted its worship in 325 A.D. (research by Pastor Doug Batchelor of Amazing Facts Television Ministry)! Popes have put, in her, many of the merits of Christ; claiming that she was immaculately conceived (pure: without personal sin); that she was “assumed” up to heaven, in bodily form; that her body did not see corruption; and much more: even making her the intercessor in Christ’s place!
What is his “mark?” Sorry, for this we have no definitive text, except their own official writing, claiming that they were given power, “even to change the precepts [laws] of Christ, and that, had they not such power, they could not have transferred the solemnities of Sabbath to Sunday.” In another Catholic document, “… it is a MARK of her authority!”
The very words used!
Our Church, and our Message, are built on the foundation “Line upon Line,” from Isaiah 28, verses 9 and 10. William Miller’s nickname was; “The old man, and his Concordance.” That is how he studied the Bible, and unsealed Daniel’s book. Everyone who wants to study the Bible needs a Cruden’s Concordance! It is a simple text-finder.
[Young’s Concordance is for those young enough to think they can do better translation than those who translated the whole KJV Bible, and Strong’s Concordance is for those who are strong enough to handle such a heavy book!] Lol
For studying prophecy, you also have to apply history, for, “prophecy is history in advance.”
